Complete Your Puzzle

I believe that the foods you consume play a very large role in health, wellness and the prevention of disease and illness. I also believe that there is more to the story than nutrition and exercise alone.

Whether you are trying to lose weight, maintain your weight, gain weight, increase energy, etc., there are many pieces of the puzzle that you must put together in order to reach your goals and maintain what you have achieved. Oftentimes, I would say at least 90% of the time; we are attempting to complete a jigsaw puzzle with only two pieces, diet and exercise. 

Why is it that a person, who eats just as their dietitian has guided and exercises just as their trainer has instructed, fails to have success? What pieces of the puzzle are missing?

Let's assume that the dietitian and the trainer are excellent, and have completed metabolic testing and an array of blood and urine tests.  They have the best possible picture of the person's health and have individualized an exercise and nutrition plan. 

What has not been created is a full body care plan. Mental, spiritual, emotional and social health and well-being are not in the plan of attack. You may refer to this as mind, body and spirit. Until all areas are addressed, all puzzle pieces are utilized; it will be very difficult, if not impossible to achieve the goals

Fad diets are popular; people jump from one to another. 10 days to skinny, 21 days to health, 8 weeks to fit; books with titles similar to this are flying off the shelves. There is no magic pill or miracle diet and there is no quick fix. The things you strive for, weight loss, weight maintenance, weight gain, increased energy; they will not manifest overnight. But, if you use every piece of the puzzle that lies before you, you will complete your puzzle and change your life.
